In the Age of AI, Curiosity Is the Real Advantage

AI is accelerating how people learn, solve problems, and approach their work. Curiosity, continuous learning, and diverse perspectives can help people adapt and contribute as AI reshapes established ways of working.

Why it matters: Organizations can gain more from AI when people feel empowered to experiment, build new skills, and challenge existing approaches.

Key Takeaways:

  • Curiosity becomes an advantage: Asking questions and experimenting with new approaches helps people adapt as AI becomes part of everyday work.
  • AI changes how work gets done: AI can reduce repetitive tasks, accelerate research, organize information and help people uncover insights faster.
  • Different perspectives strengthen innovation: AI fluency paired with experience, context and industry expertise can help teams challenge assumptions and solve problems together.

When people talk about artificial intelligence, the conversation often centers on technology. We hear about models, automation, productivity gains, and the pace of innovation. Those are certainly important parts of the story. But from my perspective, one of the most exciting aspects of this moment has very little to do with technology itself. It's what AI is teaching us about learning.

For most of our careers, expertise was built gradually over time. We developed knowledge through experience, solved problems repeatedly, learned from mentors, and gained confidence by refining our skills year after year. Those fundamentals still matter today and always will. What has changed is the speed at which people can access information, explore ideas, and learn new ways of working. AI is accelerating that process in ways that are reshaping both individual careers and entire organizations. In many ways, we're all becoming beginners again.

Whether you're just entering the workforce or have decades of experience behind you, we're all learning how to work differently. We're discovering new tools, rethinking established processes, and finding new ways to solve problems. While change can sometimes feel uncomfortable, I believe it's also creating one of the most exciting opportunities for growth that many of us will see in our careers.

A Shift in How We Think About Work

One of the biggest misconceptions about AI is that it's primarily about replacing jobs. What I see instead is AI changing how work gets done.

Across nearly every profession, AI is helping eliminate repetitive tasks, accelerate research, organize information, and uncover insights faster than ever before. Engineers are using AI to write and test code. Product teams can validate ideas more quickly. Business professionals can access information and conduct analysis that might have previously taken days or weeks.

As intelligence becomes increasingly available on demand, the conversation shifts from "Will AI replace this role?" to "How does this role evolve when AI becomes part of the process?"

That's a much more interesting question because it focuses on potential rather than limitation. The future won't be defined by people competing against AI. It will increasingly be shaped by people who understand how to work effectively alongside it.

Why Curiosity Matters More Than Ever

As AI becomes more integrated into our daily work, technical knowledge alone won't be enough. The people who are thriving in this environment tend to share a different characteristic: curiosity.

They're willing to experiment. They're comfortable asking questions. They're interested in exploring new approaches even when there isn't a clear roadmap. Most importantly, they recognize that learning is no longer something you do at the beginning of your career. It's something you continue to do throughout it. That's one of the reasons we place such importance on creating a culture of continuous learning at Deltek.

As AI continues to evolve, we want employees to feel empowered to build new skills and explore new possibilities. Through initiatives like our AI fluency programs, we're helping employees develop the knowledge and confidence needed to use these technologies in ways that make sense for their roles. Just as importantly, we're creating an environment where experimentation is encouraged and where challenging existing ways of working is seen as a positive part of innovation.

To me, that's what being AI-forward really means. It isn't about using AI everywhere. It's about developing a mindset that continuously asks, "Is there a better way to solve this problem?"

The Advantage of Diverse Perspectives

One of the most fascinating aspects of the AI era is how it brings different perspectives together.

Many students and early-career professionals entering the workforce today are already comfortable using AI. They have grown up with technology embedded into their learning experiences and often approach problems with a naturally AI-enabled mindset. At the same time, experienced professionals bring something equally valuable: context, judgment, industry expertise, and a deep understanding of customers and business challenges.

The most successful organizations don't choose one perspective over the other. They create opportunities for both to learn from each other.

I've seen firsthand that some of the best ideas emerge when people with different backgrounds, experiences, and areas of expertise come together to solve a common problem. Innovation rarely happens in isolation. It happens when diverse perspectives challenge assumptions and build on one another's insights.

Why This Moment Is So Exciting at Deltek

What makes this an especially exciting time at Deltek is the opportunity to combine those human strengths with the possibilities AI creates.

For decades, we've built deep expertise serving project-based businesses. We understand the industries we support, the challenges our customers face, and the workflows that drive their success. We also bring real-world data, trusted customer relationships, and a strong foundation in security, compliance, and governance.

When you combine those strengths with AI, the opportunity becomes incredibly powerful.

We're helping reimagine how organizations pursue opportunities, plan work, execute projects, and make better decisions across the entire project lifecycle. At the same time, we're creating opportunities for our employees to learn, experiment, and contribute to meaningful innovation that directly impacts our customers.

That's what excites me most. Not simply the technology itself, but the chance to be part of shaping how it is applied in practical, responsible, and impactful ways.

Innovation Starts With People

Technology will continue to evolve, bringing new tools and capabilities that change how we work. But the organizations that thrive won't be defined solely by the technology they adopt. Their advantage will come from people who remain curious, embrace learning, and feel empowered to grow and contribute in new ways.

That's why, when I think about the future of AI, I think first about people—and our willingness to learn, experiment, and occasionally become beginners again. Because while AI may be transforming the way we work, it's people who will ultimately determine what's possible.
