Shaping the Future Generation: Inside the Deltek Internship Experience

Each summer, Deltek opens its doors to a group of bright, ambitious students eager to apply their skills, gain hands-on experience and explore what it means to work in a professional environment.

We recently sat down with several of our interns to hear their stories and better understand what this opportunity means to them. From project work and personal growth, to leadership exposure and real-world collaboration, their experiences speak for themselves — and offer a glimpse into what makes Deltek's internship program truly unique.

In honor of National Intern Day, we’re excited to spotlight these individuals, a group that brings fresh perspectives, sharp thinking and unstoppable curiosity to teams across the organization. 

A Unique Opportunity

Deltek’s summer internship program is built to support growth from day one. Running from early June through early August, it offers college students the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world business challenges while building essential skills in communication, critical thinking and problem-solving.

For many interns, the experience began with orientation — not just an introduction to Deltek’s mission, but a chance to meet fellow interns and build instant connections. “My favorite part of the internship was actually the first day,” Cloud Operations intern, Sukhman Singh, shared. “It was the only day I came to HQ because I live so far away, but meeting others who were in my shoes made me feel like I belonged from the start.”

Beyond orientation, interns have had access to a carefully curated mix of learning and networking opportunities. Through our Speaker Series, interns hear directly from Deltek leaders, asking thoughtful questions and gaining insight into different areas of the business. Professional development opportunities, peer partnerships and team-building events ensure interns not only grow their technical skills but also build meaningful relationships across the company.

Real-World Work, Real Impact

What truly sets the Deltek internship experience apart is the depth of the work. Interns aren’t observers — they are contributors.

Whether they're joining client calls, helping manage internal processes, or rolling out new ways to use technology, interns take on challenges that stretch their abilities and make a tangible difference. “I just had the opportunity to give a presentation in front of 40 VPs and C-suite individuals,” said Jack Kaelber, a rising sophomore at the University of Alabama. “To be an intern and get that opportunity is incredible.”

A Professional Services intern from Virginia Tech, Mateen Nabizadah, reflected on presenting release notes to a team of Consulting Delivery Directors and VPs, sharing “It was one of the most rewarding moments of the summer. I felt like what I was working on truly mattered.”

Hands-on learning was a theme echoed by many. “I love coming into the office every day and working on projects with my fellow interns,” noted Claire Myers, also a student at Virginia Tech. “I really value meeting people from all different parts of the company.”

And in a particularly exciting cross-functional collaboration, a group of interns created and presented an AI-powered sales enablement tool. “We showed how AI can simulate live cold calls by using input like battle cards and prospecting data — it was super cool,” explained Nate Land, a rising senior at the University of Tennessee. “We even got to present in front of senior leaders, including Deltek’s CEO Bob Hughes!”

Culture, Community & Connection

While the work is meaningful, many interns say it is Deltek’s people and culture that makes the experience truly memorable.

“If I had to describe the culture here, I’d say ‘welcoming,’ said Riya Yeratha, a rising senior at Virginia Tech. “Since day one, everyone has been so kind and nurturing. They really want to help us grow and succeed.” Another intern from Virginia Tech, Delaney Goetz, added, “There’s so much respect among the teams, and I’ve felt that as an intern — people are open to meeting with me, teaching me about their roles and encouraging me to ask questions.”

That spirit of inclusion extends beyond formal mentorship. Interns describe their teams as collaborative and supportive, with managers who invest in their success. “The motivation you get from the people around you is incredible,” said Jack. “Everyone genuinely wants you to succeed — and that kind of encouragement is rare to find these days.”

Even remote interns found ways to build strong connections. Through online activities and collaboration sessions, they're engaging with colleagues beyond their immediate circles and developing a deeper understanding of Deltek’s business.“One of the most rewarding aspects of the internship was getting to collaborate one-on-one with people across the organization,” explained Jordan Ensign, a student at Slippery Rock University. “Even from a distance, I felt like I've had a front-row seat to how different roles contribute to the bigger picture at Deltek.”

Lessons Learned & Bright Futures

Throughout the summer, our interns discovered that their intern experience isn’t just a stepping stone but a turning point in their career journeys.

Several interns noted how much they have grown professionally and personally. “Sitting in on client calls and weekly planning meetings gave me a real-world view of what consulting looks like day-to-day,” said Edward Severichs, a Global Consulting Intern attending Virginia Tech. “It deepened my understanding of the career path and helped me see what I’d be getting into — and whether it’s the right fit for me.”

Others are walking away with greater clarity about their future goals. “This internship showed me what I want out of a job and out of company culture,” shared Jordan. “It helped me figure out what I really value in the workplace.”

As interns reflected on their experiences, many offered advice for future newcomers. Mateen suggested, “Get out of your comfort zone. Don’t be afraid to talk to people — even outside your department. Whether it’s engineering, sales, or marketing, everyone here is connected in their own special way.”

And for those considering a future at Deltek, the path forward feels bright. “There are so many opportunities to advance in this company,” said Delaney. “Everyone wants to see you succeed.”
