Celebrating Engineers Who Make a Difference

The architecture and engineering industry is evolving rapidly as technology, rising client expectations, and faster innovation reshape how firms operate and compete. Deltek supports this transformation by providing an integrated platform that combines AI, automation, and connected insights to improve speed, visibility, and decision-making across the project lifecycle. By delivering tools designed specifically for project-based businesses, Deltek helps firms reduce risk, streamline collaboration, and focus more on innovation while enabling customers to design communities, protect infrastructure, and address complex future challenges with confidence.

Every year, Engineers Week shines a spotlight on the people and projects that shape our world, and this year’s theme, “Transform Your Future,” reminds us that engineering is more than technical expertise. It’s about creativity, collaboration, and making a positive impact on society. From designing safer infrastructure to creating vibrant communities, engineers play a vital role in building opportunities and improving lives.

In this blog, we’re honoring Engineers Week 2026 by featuring projects from our customers who are at the forefront of creating safe, dynamic, and future‑ready communities that enrich lives.

Jordan & Skala Engineers Create Comfort, Care, and Community at Touchmark at Emerald Lake

Thoughtful engineering plays a vital role in shaping environments that support dignity, safety, and well-being, especially in places designed for life’s later stages. At Touchmark at Emerald Lake, engineering goes beyond technical performance. This project illustrates how intentional design and behind-the-scenes systems work together to enhance daily life and support residents at every level of care.

Set among 80 acres of greenery in McKinney, Texas, Touchmark at Emerald Lake is more than a place to live—it’s a vibrant community designed to help residents thrive. Jordan & Skala’s engineering expertise helped bring this vision to life, creating spaces that foster connection and well-being. From independent living units to memory care facilities and a picturesque 11-acre lake, this project reflects how engineering transforms environments to support quality of life. “Touchmark at Emerald Lake is a representative project of this mission in so many ways; it is a continuing care retirement community, home to some of the most vulnerable members of society, and we take that into account when we design,” said Brittany Schultz, Director of Marketing.

From designing plumbing systems for specialized fixtures, such as therapeutic tubs, that enhance care and comfort, to implementing energy-efficient mechanical systems like Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) that support amenity spaces, the firm prioritizes the occupants of the building. This focus encourages full and active lifestyles centered on wellness before construction begins. The work of the engineers often goes unseen, tucked away behind drywall or on the rooftop, but it is critical to the quality of life because these systems make a building safe and habitable.

"A central part of our mission at Jordan & Skala Engineers is to maintain a keen awareness of our services’ impact on the quality and safety of human life and the environment."

– Brittany Schultz, Director of Marketing

Bowman Protects Communities and Shapes Experiences for a Better Tomorrow

Engineering has the power to do more than build infrastructure; it can protect communities, enhance everyday experiences, and shape resilient, connected environments. Bowman’s diverse portfolio reflects this impact, applying technical expertise and thoughtful design to address complex challenges while improving quality of life.

"For younger engineers, especially, it’s powerful to be part of something that’s shaping the future of infrastructure and communities. That sense of purpose is what keeps our teams energized and excited about what’s ahead."

– Brian McPartlin, Principal

In Crystal Lake, Illinois, Bowman expanded the Three Oaks Recreation Area Trail, adding 2.2 miles of scenic walking paths and improving shoreline stability. The project enhances public access, connectivity, and safety, creating a continuous loop around the lake linking to wooded trails. With thoughtful design and collaboration, Bowman transformed a natural space into a community asset that promotes recreation and well-being—an inspiring example of engineering’s power to shape experiences and futures.

“Projects like this remind our team why the work matters. They challenge us to think creatively, collaborate across disciplines, and see the real-world impact of our designs, said Brian McPartlin, Principal.”

How Deltek Helps You Transform Your Future

These projects from Jordan & Skala and Bowman demonstrate how engineering transforms not only physical spaces but also the future of communities and industries. Whether it’s enhancing quality of life, revitalizing historic spaces, or creating recreational connectivity, each initiative reflects the creativity and collaboration at the heart of engineering.
