Elevate Earned Value Analysis with user-driven enhancements from wInsight Analytics

When federal contracts surpass an eighteen-month timeframe, or $20 million in total value, earned value management (EVM) clauses are triggered on cost-reimbursable and incentive contracts. Even outside those thresholds, EVM provides detailed performance tracking and reporting on contracts with high complexity or considerable risk. Required or not, staying on top of project performance is crucial. Earned Value Analysis (EVA) is a powerful methodology layered on top of EVM that integrates cost, schedule and scope to provide a comprehensive view of project health. By comparing the planned value of work with the actual value earned, EVA offers invaluable insights into project progress, cost control and schedule management. This quantitative approach not only helps in identifying deviations early, but also supports informed decision-making, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Deltek’s wInsight Analytics takes EVA to the next level by offering robust tools and features designed to streamline the analysis process. With its advanced data visualization capabilities, wInsight Analytics transforms complex data into intuitive dashboards and reports, making it easier for project managers to monitor performance metrics. The platform’s real-time analytics and forecasting tools enable proactive management, allowing teams to anticipate issues and implement corrective actions swiftly. By leveraging new functionality within the wInsight Analytics 8.3.3 release, organizations can enhance their EVA practices, leading to more successful project outcomes and improved overall efficiency.

User-Driven Enhancements Lead off the wInsight Analytics 8.3.3 release

Partnering with our userbase on which features to add and update allows us to put our focus where it matters. Based directly on feedback from our user community, we’ve prioritized the following elements for this release.

Process Log Improvements

You can now sort your log files and double-click the log file to open it. You’ll also see improved messaging for parent/child mismatches. These improvements are all about eliminating guesswork – you get the details you need so you can go to the source of any issues and make whatever adjustments you need.

Importing Enhancements

When importing, wInsight Analytics 8.3.3 will now automatically create additional fiscal calendar periods when you process. This makes it easier to bring new data in, without the need to go back and adjust properties extending the period of performance or jumping back and forth between properties and importing.

Report Formulas Display Updates

Showing Dash instead of 0.

Displaying a “0” as the result when you are dividing by zero can be misleading. This is true when it comes to CPI and SPI, especially if you are looking to use these as part of a calculated forecast, perhaps in an EAC realism scenario. A small update to wInsight 8.3.3 will display a dash instead of a zero, making a much clearer indication of a divide by zero situation, providing the analyst with more information to help them in their decision-making process.

Focus on Compliance

Deltek understands what it takes to remain compliant, especially in government contracting, where the regulations and requirements are the most stringent. To help you avoid legal and financial penalties, mitigate the risk of non-compliance, increase your operational efficiency and build security and trust, Deltek works hard to ensure that our products keep you protected and updated to the latest standards. To that end, we’ve added some new functionality to wInsight Analytics 8.3.3 so you’re always prepared.

IPMDAR Updates

The IPMDAR is required for some larger contracts and getting the format right matters. To help contractors simplify their analysis, make financial reporting easier and to comply with regulatory compliance, you now have the option to export the IPMDAR Contract Performance Dataset (CPD) in “Dollars” only and can include the Custom Summary Performance requirement in your JSON outputs. This change, requested by customers, helps organizations ensure that financial performance is accurately and effectively communicated.

Better Third-Party Integration

Delivering software takes coordination among several groups here at Deltek to get you the solutions that you need in a timely manner. When third-party tools are available that help us deliver relevant, functional, improvements or features, we try to blend those into the product where appropriate. This helps us deliver better software to our customers, faster, by taking advantage of products that keep your evolving needs front of mind.

QlikView Version Updates

wInsight Analytics uses QlikView to help create the dashboards you use for analysis. To help keep your software up-to-date and supported, we’ve upgraded the QlikView component to version 12.90 to extend the end-of-service date through May 2026; the previous version, 12.50 is being phased out of support through the vendor.

Microsoft Azure Support

Azure and Azure SQL databases are now supported for the deployment of your wInsight Analytics solution. This allows us to help you leverage the technology licenses you already have as you work to upgrade your tech stack to the latest and greatest.
