Your New Go-To for Infrastructure Guide Specifications

Deltek Specpoint continues to elevate its foundational guide specification library with the expansion of SpecText for Specpoint. Since its launch in 2021, Specpoint has included the industry-leading AIA MasterSpec® guide specification library to assist Architects and Engineers (A&Es) with developing architectural and engineering specifications. With the introduction of SpecText for Specpoint, we now offer a more comprehensive solution for infrastructure specifications. Specpoint's technology, combined with the SpecText guide specification library, will enhance Architects' and Engineers' ability to efficiently deliver high-quality specifications.

In this blog, we'll explore SpecText's benefits and explain how current subscribers and new customers can benefit from the expanded guide specifications available through Specpoint. We'll also address some common questions from Specpoint and SpecText users like you.

What is SpecText?

Deltek SpecText includes more than 400 sections of detailed, three-part, CSI-formatted specifications accompanied by Editor's Notes to assist with editing and customization and Supporting Documents that offer thorough application analyses. SpecText is an essential tool for efficiently creating and effectively managing infrastructure projects.

What Does This Mean for Me as an Existing SpecText Customer?

As an existing SpecText customer, we're excited to help you elevate your specifications with Specoint’s technology. When you renew your SpecText subscription, you'll receive access to Deltek Specpoint, with AIA MasterSpec and SpecText for Specpoint at no additional cost. If you'd like to access Specpoint before your SpecText renewal, please contact your Deltek Customer Success Manager for more details.

What Does This Mean For Specpoint Customers Without SpecText Subscriptions?

New and existing Specpoint customers automatically receive AIA MasterSpec with Specpoint, which includes some infrastructure specs. For the most comprehensive infrastructure library, we recommend investing in SpecText for Specpoint. This add-on offers over 400 guide specifications tailored for infrastructure, civil, water, and wastewater projects. By purchasing SpecText for Specpoint, you can use Specpoint’s powerful technology to make developing specifications more efficient.

Are There Redundancies Between AIA MasterSpec and SpecText?

As part of launching SpecText for Specpoint, we carefully reviewed AIA MasterSpec (included with Specpoint) and the add-on module SpecText for Specpoint for any content that might overlap between the libraries. This analysis revealed many SpecText sections that contain material also covered in MasterSpec in a manner suitable for infrastructure projects. To avoid duplication of content, we decided to retain only the MasterSpec versions of these sections within Specpoint.

When the MasterSpec version was not suitable for horizontal construction, we retained both versions but adjusted the SpecText section's name and number slightly to differentiate it from the MasterSpec version. For example, the SpecText version of Section 033000 -- Cast-In-Place Concrete will appear in Specpoint as Section 033000.01 -- Cast-In-Place Concrete for Infrastructure.

The SpecText sections that will not move to Specpoint will be considered "archived" instead of "discontinued." This means that they will no longer be updated, but they will be available on legacy platforms like SpecBuilder Cloud, SpecText (Word), and e-SPECS through their product retirement. Those who need a bit more time to transition to Specpoint will have access to these static sections during the transition period.

Can I Still Access SpecText (Word) and Use MasterWorks?

To better serve our customers and enhance our offerings, we will be transitioning away from producing SpecText as stand-alone downloadable Word documents, with this change taking effect June 30, 2026. Starting July 1, 2026, all SpecText updates will be delivered on the same quarterly schedule exclusively through Specpoint. We encourage customers to finish their current projects and start new ones in Specpoint with SpecText. For longer-term projects, we recommend importing them into Specpoint for completion.

Deltek is dedicated to enhancing the development and management of construction specifications through technology. The release of SpecText for Specpoint underscores our commitment to continually improving the efficiency and accuracy of specifications with advanced technology.
