Six Key Takeaways from Virtual Deltek Insight 2020

With our first Virtual Deltek Insight in the books, we can confidently say this was the largest gathering of project-focused professionals we've ever hosted! Over 11,500 Deltek Project Nation members participated in 350+ virtual sessions to learn, collaborate, and network. Despite being an online event, Deltek Insight still recognized customer success with a virtual 2020 MVP Awards ceremony and celebrated talent performances from the first-ever Deltek Project Nation’s Got Talent competition.

We are proud to have been able to bring together Deltek Project Nation during a time when things are far from business as usual. If you missed the big show or want to relive the magic, it is now available On Demand through December 31. Simply register for Virtual Deltek Insight and log in to browse the available content.

Here are six of the main takeaways from this year’s event:

#1 Deltek's Commitment to Powering Project Success Is Unwavering

During the opening Fireside Chat, Deltek President & CEO, Mike Corkery, discussed the company’s strategy and on-going priorities for 2020 and shared how they haven't changed, despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic and the economic uncertainty it has caused.

“Our long-term strategy and commitment to Deltek Project Nation remain the same, to aspire to be the global standard solution that project-based businesses rely on to run their businesses and power their project-success,” said Corkery.

Mike explained how Deltek has invested in our team and our solutions to pivot as needed while still providing our customers the tools and resources they depend on through these uncertain times. To listen to the entire Fireside Chat, view the video below:

#2 Purposeful Innovation Drives Digital Transformation

A common theme throughout both days of Virtual Deltek Insight was Purposeful Innovation. Warren Linscott, Deltek’s SVP of Product Strategy, spoke about how Deltek has a responsibility, as a trusted partner, to support a customer’s digital transformation by exploring new technologies.

During his Day 2 General Session, Warren explained how Deltek’s purposeful innovation efforts and product innovation strategy hasn’t slowed during the pandemic. Instead, we’ve been looking at opportunities to pivot our innovation roadmap as the pandemic unfolds, to provide the most value while allowing us to scale to meet customer needs. We are leveraging innovation across multiple products to be smarter and more efficient in our delivery and adjusting our product roadmaps in response to customer feedback.

During Virtual Insight, Deltek showcased how purposeful innovation is infused into our industry-specific solutions with the unveiling of Costpoint 8. This industry-leading solution has more innovation and increased intelligence to provide government contractors an easier, more efficient way to manage their project-based business – built on the same platform they have come to know and trust.

Similarly, Deltek Vantagepoint 3.5, rolling out later this year, will include reimagined functionality, a new browser interface, and a wide array of innovative features and functionalities for both front and back office, giving professional service firms a richer customer experience.

#3 Improving Product Quality Fuels Engineering Excellence

Product quality continues to be a key priority for Deltek. Over the past year, Mike Scopa, SVP of Engineering, and his team have been focused on improving their Shift Left mindset and building code with as few defects as possible. During his Day 2 General Session, Scopa shared with Deltek Project Nation how Steve McConnell, CEO of Construx and author of Code Complete, worked with the team to implement a best in industry methodology to measure agile processes and evaluate the success of their Shift Left mindset.

Scopa was joined by team members to detail the tremendous progress made on applying this Shift Left approach, evident in new releases like Costpoint 8 and Vantagepoint 3.5. Scopa noted that this is only the beginning, and customers will continue to see additional code improvements across all Deltek products rolling out later in 2020 and beyond. As the Deltek engineering team continues on this journey to improve quality in the software delivery lifecycle, customers will see enhanced user experience and adoption.

#4 Deltek Customers Do Amazing Things

Insight once again was the stage for Deltek’s annual MVP Awards honoring outstanding customer achievements. Brian Daniell, SVP of Deltek Customer Care, presented the coveted glass trophies to each of our seven Most Valuable Project Award winners

Through the use of their Deltek solution, these project-based businesses each demonstrated how they improved business processes, drove innovation, and increased profitability. Awards were presented in specific industries to companies from around the globe – ranging from 15 up to 120,000 employees. To see all the 2020 MVP Award Winners, click on the video below:

#5 Diversity & Inclusion Increase Understanding and Productivity in the Workplace

Aside from sessions on Deltek and its customers, Insight also included two very timely keynote presentations. Both sessions reflected a direct response to uncertainty people are experiencing due to the on-going health pandemic and the social justice movement.

Dr. Shirley Davis, Diversity & Inclusion expert, senior executive and global workforce coach, gave a Keynote on embracing change in our modern workforce – and the importance that diversity, inclusion and equality play in today’s world. She highlighted different ways that leaders can help reinforce these actions by building a workplace culture where we respect one another and make decisions based on our value as a humans, not our diverse identity.

In addition to the impact the pandemic has had on businesses, it has equally impacted our health and well-being. As part of Mike Robbins’ Keynote, he emphasized the importance of resilience and how changing your perspective can have a positive impact, especially during a time when things are far from normal. Robbins' address reminded us, while we can’t control what is going on in the world around us, we can focus on showing up and orientating ourselves in a more positive and productive way. His keynote also focused on recognizing that it’s OK to ask for help, leverage each other’s strengths, and, most importantly, remember We Are All in This Together. Robbins concluded by saying, “If we can’t care for ourselves first, then we can’t show up and care for those around us.”

Embracing topics like these provide an opportunity to support and educate our Deltek Project Nation community, recognizing that they influence individuals and companies alike. We hope that sharing these expert perspectives brings more understanding of these issues; and drives business growth and productivity while simultaneously bringing positive change to the workplace.

#6 Socially Distanced Fun Showcases Our Customers Many Talents

Deltek Insight has always been an opportunity to celebrate our hard-working community and recognize our customers for their outstanding contributions. As part of this year's appreciation event, we invited attendees to showcase their talents in the form of a friendly competition.

We welcomed back LOCASH, our favorite country duo, who has been rocking our Insight celebrations since 2008, as celebrity judges for our Deltek Project Nation’s Got Talent Competition. Talent submissions ranged from lyrical artwork and breakdancing to musical theatre opera, but in the end, only one act would be crowned the winner! Congratulations to Julie Roda from Core Design Group, our 2020 DPNGT Winner! Julie received a $2,500 cash prize and selected The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as her Deltek charity of choice for a $2,500 donation.

You can view all the submissions by registering for Virtual Deltek Insight and logging in to the platform. To see the winning performance check out the video below:
