Celebrating Diversity & Inclusion In All That We Do

June 09, 2021

As a global company with over 3,000 employees working in more than a dozen countries, diversity and inclusion (D&I) have always been a vital part of Deltek's values. We are proud of the inclusive culture we've created; however, we also know there is still more work to be done.

D&I is especially important as this past year has been incredibly difficult for so many, including our LGBTQ+ communities, people of color, and millions of others affected by the pandemic and racial injustice. To address some of these challenges head-on, we have accelerated our programmatic efforts to focus on inclusion to ensure we emerge a stronger organization in a post-COVID workplace.

Empowering Our Employees

At Deltek, we are focused on making D&I a priority at every level of the organization by creating a safe environment for employees to learn and grow together that encourages understanding and celebrates individuality.

One way we are making our workplace more inclusive is by expanding our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to support even more Deltek communities and foster stronger allyship. ERGs are safe spaces where employees can promote inclusion, share experiences, socialize, network and raise awareness of relevant issues. Historically, our ERGs have consisted of Pride@Deltek and Women@Deltek; however, we launched nine additional groups earlier this year including Asians@Deltek and Black Voices@Deltek to help us embrace and celebrate our differences.

These ERGs have become a critical platform—especially while being remote —and key to fostering open, transparent and heartfelt conversations. They have also become a way to engage in meaningful discussions through educational sessions, on topics such as how COVID has impacted women, how we can be inclusive of transgender employees in the workplace and about the Black experience, police accountability and how it impacts our children. Through these powerful sessions, employees continue to learn about the ongoing challenges their colleagues may be experiencing and how they can be more supportive through acting as an ally.

By embracing all of our differences—including ages, cultures, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, religious beliefs, disabilities and veteran status, as well as the life experiences and ideas of our employees—we strengthen our ties as #TeamDeltek and better serve our increasingly diverse customer community.

A Transformation in Progress

Deltek is committed to creating a workplace our employees and customers can be proud of. This is why it is important to us that each member of Deltek Project Nation understands that they will be treated with respect, inclusivity and appreciation—and that every employee has the opportunity to pursue their professional interests and grow their careers.

This commitment can be seen not only in how we support Deltek Project Nation but also in our project-based solutions. From incorporating gender pronouns into our email signatures as a respectful acknowledgment to the LGBTQ+ community to removing exclusive language from software code that may have a negative connotationwe know words matter and can profoundly impact our employees and our customers.

But it doesn't stop there. We understand that to create quality software for our customers, we need to employ different mindsets, thought processes and staff to challenge us. And we believe that we can enhance innovation by the variety of unique identities, experiences, and perspectives that our diverse group of employees brings to work each day. By encouraging diversity of thought and investing in inclusive recruiting and hiring practices, we are confident that we will attract, develop, and retain top talent to deliver on our mission of powering project success.

As we continue on this D&I journey, we are committed to taking intentional actions for more diverse representation across our company. These actions will help ensure that #TeamDeltek is positioned to perform at its very best in a culture where we have an equal opportunity to belong, advance and thrive.

Having Pride at Deltek

In celebration of June being Pride Month, we are honored to recognize our LGBTQ+ employees and how far we've come in creating a diverse and inclusive workplace culture where all our employees feel valued, included and empowered. Pride Month is more than just an annual observance; it's an opportunity to drive awareness and visibility of things that are important to us as individuals.

To kickoff off our month-long virtual festivities, our Pride@Deltek ERG hosted a powerful session that explored aspects of transgender and gender non-conforming identity in the workplace —including how stereotypes differ across cultures, representation of transgender people in media, and how Deltek is building a gender-inclusive work environment. This was a unique opportunity for our employees to unite and learn together as well as a critical part of our mission at Deltek.

While Pride Month has existed for more than 50 years and commemorates the contributions the LGBTQ+ community has had on society, we are proud that Deltek has pride all year long—and we show it by recognizing and embracing our uniqueness every day. We support and empower our employees to be who they are without fear of discrimination and have made the conscious choice to increase awareness, acknowledge our differences and set the example for project-based businesses.
