Innovative Engineering Firms Shape the Future

In the ever-evolving landscape of technological advancements and sustainable development, engineering firms are at the forefront of driving innovation and addressing critical business challenges. These firms play a pivotal role in shaping our future, contributing to areas such as renewable energy, and the creation of smart cities and sustainable buildings. Deltek celebrates its customers’ endeavors to apply technical innovation and prepare communities for the future.

Willmer Engineering Enhances Community Life Through Land Remediation

Founded in 1982, Willmer Engineering is a second-generation business specializing in civil engineering. With over two decades of experience in environmental consulting, the firm offers environmental engineering services and recently worked on a project for the City of Buford, Georgia. The project involved the inactive Peachtree Industrial Boulevard/McEver Road Landfill, which operated as an unlined trench municipal solid waste disposal facility from 1961 to 1986. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) mandated an environmental site assessment for the landfill, leading to Willmer conducting a comprehensive site characterization study which will help to achieve site cleanup standards by the closure period ending in 2027. In addition, the project will allow for groundwater sampling and methane gas monitoring, helping to protect the community.

Beyond project excellence, Willmer Engineering underwent a transformative journey in its internal processes. Willmer Engineering used to rely heavily on paper-based accounting processes. The accounts payable department received a weekly stack of papers, manually initialed by various project managers and payments were issued through traditional checks. It was an arduous, time-consuming and error-prone process that was in dire need of an overhaul.

Recognizing the inefficiencies of paper-based processes, the firm implemented a Deltek ERP solution. This shift from manual processes to digital automation streamlined financial workflows, enabling the firm to focus more on its core business including impactful community projects, such as the Peachtree Landfill.

Furtado & Associates Safeguards Public Health and the Environment

Based in Seattle, Washington, Furtado & Associates, Inc. is a consulting services firm specializing in civil engineering, land surveying and construction management. With a 40-year commitment to building America's infrastructure, 95% of their work takes place in the public sector.

Furtado recently completed a project for the Kings County Georgetown CSO, contributing to a larger Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Control Plan Amendment. Their services included base mapping, utility surveys and other surveying activities critical for the Georgetown Wet Weather Treatment Facility.

With multiple projects underway at any given time, it was important for the firm to track critical data in a timely manner. They recently implemented Deltek Ajera to help manage their project workflow.

Prior to using Ajera, employees completed their timesheets in Excel. The human resources manager would then manually import each timesheet into a master spreadsheet and perform calculations for project managers and the finance team. Project managers (PMs) were provided updates, including overhead costs, at weekly status meetings. This time-consuming process caused a few projects to go over budget because the firm lacked real-time data on project costs.

Implementation of Deltek Ajera streamlined project workflow management, providing current data crucial for staying within budget and ensuring project success.

Wade Consulting Creates Climate-Adaptive Buildings

Currently comprised of 20 dedicated employees and growing, Wade Consulting specializes in structural engineering and building envelopes, a crucial component that protects your family, friends and coworkers from the elements.

The firm is dedicated to delivering engineering solutions that meet client expectations and protect buildings in diverse climates. With over five decades of experience, they specialize in rehabilitation and restoration projects, catering to both private and public sectors.

Before adopting Deltek Vantagepoint, an ERP Solution, Wade Consulting faced challenges in project health assessment due to disjointed information. The integration of Vantagepoint revolutionized their financial planning and project management, offering comprehensive insights into project health and costs. This newfound clarity allows the firm to provide clients with detailed information, leading to fewer inquiries and more profitable projects.

Engineering firms like Willmer Engineering, Furtado & Associates and Wade Consulting are not only contributing to technological advancements but also revolutionizing their internal processes to better serve communities. Through their innovative projects and commitment to sustainability, these firms exemplify the vital role of engineering in shaping a brighter future.
