5 Tips To Improve Your Productivity At Work
According to a survey by CIPD, a third of businesses don’t measure their productivity. Many of those that do measure it appear in practice to be thinking about business performance more generally.
What is productivity?
Productivity is the work generated by companies and their employees with the resources they have.
It is thought that, in the UK, productivity has been at a standstill for seven years due to companies not investing in their employees and required resources.
Improve your productivity
Here are 5 tips to improve your productivity and become more efficient at work:
1. Take regular breaks
Use the Pomodoro Technique to take regular breaks. Working for long period of times can affect your productivity. The Pomodoro Technique consists of taking 5minutes break for every 25 minutes of work. Taking regular breaks will enhance your productivity, help you focus and improve your health.
2. Create a to do list
Creating to-do lists will help you prioritise your work, especially if you feel overwhelmed and don’t know where to start. Write down all your tasks and highlight the most important ones. By doing so you can keep track of your work, stay focussed on your deadlines and generally be better organised and less stressed.
3. Work on one task at a time
By juggling many tasks at once you risk affecting the quality of your work and may be prone to mistakes. Concentrate on one task at a time and flag up any issues that arise arising issues by adding them to your to do list.
4. Set up email time
As the mind tool team wrote in a recent blog ‘While email is incredibly useful, it's also one of the biggest work distractions we face. Many of us could spend entire days simply reading and responding to emails.’
Scheduling email times will help you stay focussed on your task and not get distracted by incoming emails which could make you lose time and concentration. Block some time in your diary to answer non-urgent emails and turn them into actions on your to-do list when needed.
5. Work in a calm environment
It is easy to get distracted by co-workers and background noise. If you have the right set up and this option is available to you, work from home occasionally. That way you can get work done without being distracted by the people around you. If that’s not possible, borrow a meeting room at work.
By improving your productivity you can also improve your wellbeing at work by reducing your stress levels and be more successful.
