Jason Bagshaw Finds Success in Supporting Others

Deltek is proud to continue our ongoing support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. Each year during the month of September we take time to recognize Blood Cancer Awareness Month in an effort to help raise support and understanding. Deltek is committed to LLS's efforts to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma — and to improve the quality of life for patients and their families.

As part of this #TeamDeltek spotlight, we sat down (virtually!) with Jason Bagshaw, a 16-year veteran of Deltek’s sales organization, to learn about his Deltek experience, how he is supporting LLS, and what fuels his passion for life ─ even through the most challenging times.

As a veteran employee and a top performer of Deltek’s sales team, what keeps you motivated in such a demanding role?

I have had an amazing 16 years working in enterprise sales for Deltek ─ and I can’t imagine doing anything else! I manage my territory like it is my own business and I love the accountability that comes with that. I own all of my successes and failures, 100%.

Being a top sales performer and making my goals is what really motivates me. I have been challenged to bring in as much new business as possible for Deltek’s GovWin IQ product for the vast majority of my time here, which has been a huge responsibility. I really appreciate the trust that Deltek has in me to deliver year-in and year-out.

Over the years, I have mentored many new hires in sales, and it is extremely rewarding to see the success of the folks I have been able to influence; passing on knowledge is essential and very gratifying. But most importantly, I love the people I work with. We have traveled the world together, celebrated countless victories, learned from our mistakes, laughed together and cried together.

Thanks for taking the time to share with us what it means to be part of #TeamDeltek. What specifically is it about Deltek’s culture that makes it so special?

My Deltek family means the world to me, and I know if I ever needed anything, my leadership and my coworkers would be right there. I have found that you can earn a “paycheck” anywhere, but if you find an organization that supports you and your success, it is truly something special. Over the years, this has remained true, even with all of Deltek’s growth and especially throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, our sense of family is more important now than ever before.

You know what a company is really made of when you have huge challenges thrust upon it ─ like a global pandemic! This is why I can’t thank Deltek’s leadership team enough on how they’ve managed the business and employees during these uncertain times. Admittedly, I find myself reaching out to my teammates and sharing the frustrations of cabin fever, but we have built stronger bonds internally because of it.

Finding light in darkness, that is great. Deltek prides itself on prioritizing the health and well-being of its employees. In addition to supporting the needs of our employees, Deltek also supports various philanthropic efforts, one of which is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). With September being Blood Cancer Awareness Month, do you mind sharing a bit more about how LLS has impacted you and your family?

Cancer affects every one of us, in one way or another. The LLS organization has been so incredibly important to me because of the hope and support they provide to families going through the blood cancer journey. They are fighting hard to fund new treatments, find new therapies and are making remarkable strides on many fronts.

Two years ago I lost my dad to Leukemia, but I am so grateful for the various treatments he underwent that allowed us a little more time with him before he passed. Without the help of LLS, my dad would not have been around long enough to see some of his dreams come true, and I am so very thankful he was.

That extra time with our loved ones is so special. Deltek also supports Light the Night, a fundraising campaign to benefit LLS. Why did you decide, once again, to become a team captain for this year’s virtual event?

Light the Night is about bringing together communities to celebrate those who are fighting the disease and to honor those we have lost. Like so many people, I have friends and loved ones that are battling blood cancer. I genuinely feel that it is my duty to honor those who are battling this horrific disease, and honor all of the men and women working tirelessly for a cure.

I am so incredibly appreciative to Deltek for being a corporate sponsor of LLS and the Light the Night walk. With the event being virtual this year, I wanted to use my voice and personal experiences to help make it successful. Even though we can’t be together for this year’s walk, I felt compelled to step up and show my support for this incredible organization and cause.

Thank you so much for taking on that role. We know that you are active in other philanthropic efforts as well. In addition to your involvement with LLS, what other organizations do you work with?

In addition to my work with LLS, I have also been involved with Habitat for Humanity, which has been an incredibly rewarding experience both physically and emotionally.

I will never forget this one house dedication for a single mom and her young son and daughter. My team had worked countless hours with the family in freezing cold temperatures over many months, building their new townhome. Immediately following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the little boy and the girl ran over to me and grabbed my hand, and asked me to come with them as they officially walked (actually ran) into their new home. I saw their dreams realized with my very own eyes.

Donating money to a cause is incredibly important, but when you give your time and your sweat to help others in need, you truly become part of that community.

What a great perspective. Before we close, we like to ask our all #TeamDeltek interviewees this question: Of the nine Deltek values, which one most resonates the most with you?

The one value I would choose ─ without a doubt ─ would be passion! My passion is the fuel that drives me every day to succeed. I can’t wait for Mondays! It pushes me to innovate and create new efficiencies in every single activity I do at work. With three monitors lined up on my desk, I pride myself on working at warp speed. I truly believe that if you find something you are passionate about and you will never work a day in your life.
