The Impact COVID-19 Is Having on the A&E Industry and What Deltek Is Doing to Help
By Megan Miller, Senior Product Marketing Manager, Deltek
The architecture and engineering (A&E) industry continues to navigate the uncertainty and unpredictability of today’s environment. The long-term impacts on project funding and client priorities remain in flux, but there are some bright spots and optimism in the industry.
Supporting the Industry
Deltek recently shared key insight into the impact of COVID-19 on the architecture, engineering and construction industry focused on major efforts underway at the federal, state and local levels. At the federal level, AEC contracting has recently seen an 18% growth year over year. State and local agencies received stimulus funding in several key categories including direct relief, FEMA, education, mass transit, airports, justice and more, keeping many major projects on track.
In our ongoing effort to support the industry, Deltek continues to monitor the changing landscape, providing updates in the Coronavirus Government Response Research Center. The Resource Center provides updated research and analysis dedicated to helping the government contracting community understand and stay informed about the impact of response efforts.
The Impact of COVID-19 on the AEC Industry
Deltek has supported the A&E industry for more than 35 years, continuing to grow and evolve our solutions to support the changing needs of the industry. We have a vested interest in the success of not only our thousands of A&E customers, but the industry as a whole and are continuously looking for ways to better support the industry.
Strategic partnerships with industry-leading organizations like the American Institute of Architects (AIA) help Deltek make informed decisions about the current and future needs of customers and future customers alike.
According to a recent survey by the AIA, “two thirds of firms report slowing or stoppage of projects due to COVID-19,” and anticipate the numbers to continue to decline more markedly in the coming months. But, many firms are seeing current design projects moving forward with more uncertainty around future or prospective projects.
In some cases firms are taking advantage of the uncertainty and creating opportunities for improvement in either the types of projects they pursue or how they run their business. Companies are taking a closer look at how they are supporting their remote workforce, what’s happening to their pipeline, where there are inefficiencies in their project delivery processes and how they can maintain cash flow. And that’s where Deltek can help.
