Deltek Insight

By Maria Schneider, Vision Systems Manager, LEO A DALY

If you are still on the fence as to whether you should attend the 2018 Deltek Insight conference, I’m here to tell you that you should go.

As the Vision Systems Manager at LEO A DALY, a global architecture and engineering firm, I’ve been with the company for 23 years and have attended and presented at Insight countless times.  What brings me back to Insight every year are the people.  I look forward to seeing old friends every year and making new ones.  I value the interactions and information I’ve acquired and appreciate the opportunity to help others.

I have presented at Deltek Insight at least seven times – an experience that is gratifying and helps get your name out amongst the user groups.  My company, Leo A Daly, belongs to the Power User Group as well as the Large Firm User group.  Networking with other power users has helped us create some of the specialized tools we have added to our customized Vision environment.  Without those relationships, we could not have created our customizations as cleanly or as quickly as we did.

Equally of value are the sessions – they are structured so that you can pick what works best for you and your company, and are often led by other Deltek users sharing real-life experiences.  I’d recommend bringing more than one employee so that you can divide and conquer to get the most value from your time at the conference.  Leo A Daly on average sends 2-3 people to the conference to cover all our key modules. Being able to hear best practices by other companies and interact with the Deltek experts in person is invaluable.

The Insight Xpo is another great hang out.  Bring your problems and you will leave with solutions - or the direct contact information of a Deltek expert to help you after you get home.   The sponsors in the Xpo provide access to great information, too.  They are sponsoring partners for a reason, so don’t forget to stop and visit with them.  Finally, it doesn’t hurt that they serve drinks and appetizers every night while you stroll through the booths.

A recent addition, and something to add to your list in the Xpo, are the Usability Labs. These labs give you an opportunity to check out the newest features that are being deployed, and sometimes you get a sneak peek at products or features to come.  It’s a great opportunity to share your thoughts and feedback on the product (good or bad).  Make sure you try and take advantage of the lab time, you won’t regret it!

I can’t say enough about the networking opportunities you get from attending this conference.  I’ve made some very good friends who have shared with me and my colleagues how they’ve customized Deltek Vision and in turn, we’ve shared some of our customization ideas with them.  Collaboration among friends only brings success for everyone.  I’d hate for you to miss out on that, so come join us, expand your network and learn ways to enhance your system through this interactive and fun conference!
