How Digital Transformation is Impacting Information Management
Digital transformation is a hot topic at the Deltek Insight User Conference. But what is digital transformation? The best description I’ve heard of digital transformation came from Warren Linscott, senior VP of product strategy at Deltek. He shared that it’s “thinking about how data is gathered and automated.”
There is an amazing amount of data associated with every single project. The 1980s and 1990s introduced ways to digitize much of that information, simply making it available electronically. But now that companies have decades of data at their fingertips, what can we do with that? That’s where digital transformation comes in. It’s doing something with that information.
But it’s not simply doing something for the sake of doing something. Our job at Deltek is to apply practical innovation that provides value to you, our customers. Here are some areas of Deltek PIM where we have begun applying digital transformation.
What is Deltek PIM?
The 21st Century Way of Managing Information
Most recently, we have introduced the new Defect Management Performance Dashboard, which features a visual summary of a project’s punch list items. During the construction administration process, you’re already capturing the details of each punch list item. But now you can monitor trends taking place on your project through powerful charts. For example, how many of those defects are because of faulty materials or poor workmanship?
With this summary in hand, you can identify project weaknesses, improve defect resolution processes and identify patterns taking place on the project site. In the end, this can help your company closeout projects more quickly while increasing the quality of output.
Email Smart Publishing
Another example on the horizon is email smart publishing, which will simplify the process of publishing email and thus increasing user adoption. For example, the Deltek PIM Outlook plugin will evaluate the content of an email’s subject line or conversation thread and then make weighted suggestions of where to publish it (i.e., project record).
This is the first step towards machine learning where there are endless possibilities – all in an effort to provide value to your tasks and to free up your time to focus on billable work. By continuing to push the boundaries of intuitive technologies, the time necessary to invest in email management will continue to drop.
