Deltek Costpoint Transforming the User Experience through Innovation

Twitter Tweet it: 'For #AEC firms that may have missed it, read the top four takeaways from this year's #DeltekInsight! '

Last week, we had the honor of hosting over 3,100 attendees at our annual Deltek Insight customer conference.  Through the four day conference, we held over 360 educational sessions, 80 Usability Lab sessions, and 700 Meet the Experts appointments.  Now that attendees have returned home, more energized and empowered to drive better businesses after a week of information sessions, product demos, and more, we felt it was time to recap the experience for those of you who weren’t able to attend.

At Deltek, we know that better software means better projects, which is why we couldn’t be more thrilled to unveil our next generation ERP software during Insight – Deltek Vantagepoint.  Along with this announcement, we discussed transformational trends within the AEC industry including digital transformation and artificial intelligence.  Here are some of the most exciting takeaways from our week on the road, and how they apply to your business.

Deltek Vantagepoint

Bret Tushaus, Deltek’s Vice President of Product Management, spoke during the Deltek Vision / Deltek Vantagepoint Product Kickoff Session about the top 10 coolest things in Deltek Vantagepoint.  From its easy to use and modern interface, to cutting-edge dashboards, to a new proposal module and command-center-like interface for project managers, Deltek Vantagepoint has it all.  At the heart of Deltek Vantagepoint is something that is near and dear to our hearts – INNOVATION!  Read Bret’s blog post ‘Hey, Deltek…Tell Me About Deltek Vantagepoint’ and view the Deltek Vantagepoint product pages for more information.

How AI Can Help Your Project Managers

The definition of artificial intelligence is the theory and development of computer systems to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence.  People and projects are the lifeblood of your organization, so how could you possibly use AI as a substitute for your team’s human touch?  In most organizations, critical knowledge is frequently locked into their best project managers.  They manage customer expectations, identify resource requirements, interact with and manage the resources on their projects, and so much more.  Project managers don’t have the holy grail at their fingertips, nor do they have a crystal ball that will predict the future success of a project.  Leveraging AI within the AEC industry can help your firm make data-driven decisions around concepts like schedule risk analysis (SRA), to ensure the best on-time and on-budget performance.  Read the Project Nation blog ‘How Can AI Help Your Project Managers’ to see how Warren Linscott, Deltek’s Senior Vice President of Product Strategy, suggests project-based businesses approach AI from a crawl, walk, run perspective.

And the Winner is…..

It is an honor and privilege to serve world-class AEC firms as they execute on their unique missions through project success.  At this year’s Deltek Insight, we were excited to award the best of the best project-focused businesses and recognize their major accomplishments through our Most Valuable Projects (MVP) Awards.  We were ecstatic to recognize not just one, but TWO of six award recipients were AEC firms.  Take a look at the two AEC winners and read the full blog post for a look at other award-winning customers.

What Do Cupcakes and Buildings Have in Common?

On day three of Deltek Insight, we were pleased to welcome Johnny Cupcakes onto the main stage for an inspirational and uplifting keynote.  Johnny Cupcakes was founded as the world’s first t-shirt bakery.  What do t-shirts have to do with Deltek?  There were no free cupcakes, but there were plenty of cool t-shirt designs and a phenomenal story of entrepreneurship that left the audience wanting more.  Themes discussed during the keynote included brand loyalty, fostering entrepreneurship, and developing a human connection with customers.

Here are the top three quotes from Johnny that we found to be uniquely applicable to project-based businesses.

  • “Forget B2B or B2C.  It’s all H2H.”  Think about your ‘why’, and how your role makes a difference in the H2H (human to human) world.  At the end of the day, it’s not just a project.  It is a new building that will house orphans.  It is a major roadway that will enable millions of people to visit friends and family.  It is a sporting arena that will house hundreds of thousands of people each week, and enable them to make lifelong memories.
  • “Failures are just experiences.  Experimenting is how we grow.”  It is through failure that we learn the best life lessons that life could teach us.  Take chances.  Fail fast.  Learn from your failures and deliver better projects because of it.
  •  “Do more of what makes you happy.”  Simple as that.  Life is short - do more of what makes you happy!
