We recently caught up with Robert Wesener, managing partner of the firm to understand why they chose Deltek software and where their team are seeing the benefits.

What's Your Role At Fulton Trotter Architects?

"My name is Robert Wesener and I am the current managing director of Fulton Trotter Architects. I've been with Fulton Trotter now for nearly 28 years, 24 of those as a partner or director. Fulton Trotter Architects started back in 1946 and so this year we celebrate 73 years of practice."


What Impact Has Implementing Deltek Software Had On Your Firm?

"In the early days, we did a lot of work in regional Queensland and we've continued to do that as we've grown our practice over four generations of directors. Given our longevity - 73 years - we had a lot of information out there. One of the positive impacts of using Deltek PIM is our ability to collect and analyse data. Given that we came from a very low point in collecting and analysing this information, it has provided us with great opportunities to review our processes and our systems to improve our business.

To give a couple of specific examples about how some of our core business processes have been improved - the first one is the document management system. The ability to publish information and connect it to a whole range of people, organisations, and projects has made an enormous difference in managing that information, but more importantly finding it and searching for it and being able to track its progress.

The second one is, the project accounting side of it which fully integrates with our accounting system. It allows us to collect timesheet information and look at time-cost invoicing, and that has been of great benefit in analysing our effective practices that we have here and making improvements in the general bottom line of the practice.

Since going live with Deltek PIM, just over two years ago, we've found that there's been a significant change in the culture of the office. In the past we probably didn't focus as much on recording our time, analysing our time or resourcing our projects. But the tools that we have available through Deltek PIM give us the ability to manage those projects a lot better and we are seeing a cultural shift to adopting better business practices. And the whole aim is to make the business better and give them more time to be creative."
