The results, based on a survey of more than 700 North American architecture and engineering firms, identifies the key challenges impacting the industry, as well as highlights bright spots and forecasts future trends. 

The Deltek study, created in partnership with AIA, ACEC, ACEC Canada and SMPS, serves as a roadmap for firms to understand the state of the A&E marketplace and provides detailed insight and analysis into financial statements, business development, project management, human capital management, and technology trends.

Key insights in this year’s report include:

  • Firms reported higher utilization rates, and also showed signs of investing more in employee onboarding and professional development 
  • Employee turnover has increased for the second year in a row as firms continue to struggle to provide competitive compensation and retain the best and brightest talent 
  • For the tenth straight year, firms saw an increase in their operating profit on net revenue, showing financial strength across the industry
