Conversion from Wind2/Award (aka Deltek FMS) to Deltek Vision^® gives firm the tools it needs for growth and improved efficiency

The Challenge

Until early 2004, professional consulting firm V3 Companies, Ltd., used Wind2/Award (nka Deltek's Financial Management System (FMS)) to handle all of its accounting functions and client relationship management needs. As V3 expanded, the firm began to look for a flexible, web-based solution that would accommodate a larger number of timesheets and invoices, as well as house all financial, project and client information, in a single, fully integrated database.

“As we grew, we stressed Wind2/Award to its max. It wasn't made for a 250-employee firm like V3,” said Jim Mann of the now 350-employee company. “With multiple subsidiaries, we also had six to eight databases of ‘redundant data' running separately and we wanted to combine them into one.”

The Solution

V3 made the decision to purchase Deltek Vision in January 2004, began implementation in March 2004 and went live in January 2005. V3 is currently utilizing Vision's accounting, billing, time and expense, and client relationship management.

“We have very complex business processes, and Vision's flexibility and ease of use satisfied our needs,” said Mann.

The Benefits

With Vision, V3 now has a single database and the ability of consolidated income statements they required — as well as the clearer visibility into project data they had hoped for.

“By getting all of our information in one database, Vision has improved the overall operating efficiency of our entire team,” said Mann. “Time savings and data accuracy have also improved dramatically. Our project and executive managers are now getting the information they need to make more informed decisions on their projects — resulting in increased efficiency for the entire company.”

According to Mann, the once time-consuming payroll process is now a one day process, thanks to Vision. Financials are also processed more smoothly—in as little as 10 days—making cash flow much easier to monitor as well. “With Vision,” he said, “our reporting and capability to reconcile is smoother. Data errors are easier to locate.”

“Overall, Vision has effectively accommodated V3's growth,” said Mann. “Vision has effectively streamlined our operations, improving overall productivity across the entire company.”
